In this review

Gates of Olympus 1000 was released in December 2023 as an enhanced version of one of Pragmatic Play’s most famous slots. Visually, there are few changes: the same 6×5 grid, Zeus to the right of the reels, gemstones, cups, rings, and crowns. The main difference lies in the math—the maximum multiplier has been increased from x500 to x1,000, and the maximum win has been raised to x15,000 the bet.
Therefore, the number “1,000” in the title does not refer to the number of paylines or ways to win, but specifically to the maximum value of a single Multiplier symbol.

Key Features

Parameter Value
Grid 6×5
Pay system Pay Anywhere
Minimum Symbols for a Win 8
Multipliers x2–x1000
Tumble yes
Free spins 15
Retrigger +5 спинов
Bonus Buy 100x bet
Ante Bet Available in some configurations

Pragmatic Play confirms a maximum win of x15,000 and multipliers of up to x1,000. The RTP for the standard configuration is 96.50%; however, operators may use versions with different RTPs, so it’s best to check the exact value directly in the game menu.

How Winnings Are Determined

There are no traditional paylines in Gates of Olympus 1000.
The game uses the “Pay Anywhere” feature: to win, you need to land at least eight matching symbols anywhere on the grid.
They do not have to be adjacent to each other or appear from left to right.
For example, if eight red stones appear on the grid at the same time, their arrangement doesn’t matter—the combination pays out. The more matching symbols there are on the screen, the higher the corresponding payout.
The minimum is 8 symbols; the maximum can occupy a significant portion of the 30 available positions.
This is precisely why the concept of a “payline,” familiar from classic slots, is practically inapplicable to Gates of Olympus 1000.

Tumble

After each winning combination, the Tumble feature is triggered.
The winning symbols disappear, and new symbols fall into the empty spaces from above. If the new arrangement again contains eight or more matching symbols, the payout is calculated again.
This can happen several times within a single initial bet.
The sequence ends only when the next tumble does not create a new combination.
This is especially important because of the multipliers. A single regular spin can turn into several consecutive Tumble rounds, and Multiplier symbols that appear during the sequence can significantly increase the total payout.

Multiplier Symbols

Zeus stands next to the playing field and occasionally sends special winged orbs onto the grid.
Each orb contains a multiplier ranging from x2 to x1000. They can appear both during the initial spin and during subsequent Tumble rounds.
There is one important condition: the multiplier only applies if there is a win in that sequence.
For example, suppose a 10x payout is formed after several tumbles, and there is an x20 sphere on the grid. The total payout for this winning sequence increases to 200x.
If multiple spheres appear at the same time, their values are added together.
For example:
x5 + x10 + x50 = a total multiplier of x65.
This is where Version 1000 differs most significantly from the original Gates of Olympus. In the original game, a single sphere was capped at x500; here, the upper limit has been doubled to x1000.
But the appearance of x1000 alone does not guarantee a x1000 win. The sphere must land in a Tumble where there is a winning combination.

Regular symbols

The paytable uses two groups of symbols.
The lower-paying symbols are colored gemstones.
The higher-paying symbols are:
a cup, a ring, an hourglass, and a crown.
The crown is the highest-paying standard symbol. The payout depends on the number of matching symbols appearing simultaneously on the grid.
There is no separate Wild symbol in Gates of Olympus 1000. This is another difference from many standard slots: winning combinations are formed only from matching pay symbols, and the main boost comes from multiplier orbs.

Scatter and Free Spins

The Scatter symbol depicts Zeus himself.
To trigger the bonus, you need to land four or more Scatters. Once triggered, the game awards 15 free spins.
Scatters also have their own payouts, so landing a large number of them can simultaneously trigger the bonus and award a separate prize.
The main difference between free spins and the base game is how multipliers work.
In the base game, accumulated values are valid only within the current Tumble sequence. Once it ends, the counter resets to zero.
During free spins, multipliers begin to accumulate.

How the accumulative multiplier works during free spins

Let’s say that during a winning Tumble in the first free spin, x5 and x10 spheres appear.
The total bonus multiplier becomes x15.
On the next spin, an x20 appears—the multiplier increases to x35.
If an x100 appears later, the multiplier becomes x135.
The accumulated value is not reset between free spins and is carried over to subsequent winning sequences.
This is precisely why the final spins of the bonus round sometimes differ significantly from the first ones: if you’ve managed to build up a large total multiplier by that point, even a relatively small combination can result in a substantial payout.
Pragmatic Play explicitly states that the values of multiplier symbols during Free Spins are added to the total counter and then applied to winnings.

Can I extend my free spins?

Yes.
If three or more Scatter symbols appear at the same time during the bonus round, 5 more free spins are added.
This is particularly valuable here, not just because of the additional five chances.
By this point, the total multiplier may already be significantly higher than the starting value. The extra spins continue with the accumulated value—there is no reset upon retrigger.
Therefore, a long bonus round can unfold quite differently from the standard 15 spins.

Bonus Buy

In versions of the game where this feature is enabled, you can trigger the bonus without waiting for four Scatters.
The cost is 100x the current bet. Once purchased, the game guarantees the standard 15 free spins. Pragmatic Play lists this feature directly on the official Gates of Olympus 1000 page.
At a bet of €0.20, the purchase will cost €20.
At €1, it will cost €100.
At €2, it will cost €200.
This is specifically a fee for instant access to the bonus, not a purchase of a guaranteed win. The outcome of the 15 free spins is calculated as usual and may end up being either higher or lower than the cost of entry.
In some countries, Bonus Buy is disabled by law or by the operator itself.

Ante Bet

In some configurations, another option is available: the Ante Bet.
It increases the cost of each regular spin by approximately 25%, but adds more Scatter symbols to the reels, thereby increasing the frequency of naturally triggering the bonus round. In the published versions of the game, this option is described as doubling the chance of winning Free Spins.
Ante Bet and Bonus Buy serve different purposes.
The former keeps the standard gameplay but makes each spin more expensive in exchange for a higher frequency of Scatters.
Bonus Buy immediately takes you to the Free Spins round for 100 bets.
The availability of both features depends on the specific version of the client.

RTP and Volatility

The standard version of Gates of Olympus 1000 has an RTP of 96.50% and high volatility.
The high volatility here is entirely consistent with the game’s mechanics.
Regular Tumble rounds may result in small payouts, while truly large wins require a fortunate combination of several factors: a good set of symbols, a long sequence of tumbles, and large multiplier spheres.
During Free Spins, the variance becomes even more pronounced. One bonus round may barely increase the total multiplier, while another can quickly rack up tens or hundreds of multipliers.
Therefore, the maximum win of x15,000 should be viewed as the game’s upper limit, rather than a benchmark for a typical session.

How does Version 1000 differ from the original?

In terms of structure, Gates of Olympus and Gates of Olympus 1000 are nearly identical.
Both feature:

  • a 6×5 grid;
  • Pay Anywhere;
  • wins from eight matching symbols;
  • Tumble;
  • multiplier spheres;
  • 15 free spins;
  • multiplier accumulation during the bonus round.

The main difference lies in the maximum values.
In the original Gates of Olympus, the multiplier sphere reaches x500, and the maximum win is capped at approximately x5,000.
In Gates of Olympus 1000, these are x1,000 and x15,000, respectively.
In other words, Pragmatic Play chose not to change the familiar mechanics. The 1000 version features the same gameplay cycle but with higher caps on individual multipliers and the total win.

Graphics and Interface

Visually, the sequel is almost an exact replica of the original.
The game board is set against the backdrop of Mount Olympus, with Zeus standing nearby, and the symbols are rendered in a golden-purple color scheme. The focus is not on animations, but on the grid itself and the large multiplier spheres.
This approach is entirely justified here. During a long Tumble, symbols change, multipliers appear, and winnings are recalculated all at once, so a cluttered interface would only make it harder to keep track of what’s happening.
The 6×5 format fits perfectly on a mobile screen without altering the core mechanics.

What Really Matters in Gates of Olympus 1000

The game has a fairly simple structure, despite the large number of numbers on the screen.
There are only three things you need to understand.
Winning combinations are formed anywhere on the grid as long as there are eight or more matching symbols.
After a win, the Tumble feature is triggered, so a single bet can result in several consecutive winning combinations.
Finally, the multipliers are what really make a difference. In the base game, they apply within a single Tumble sequence, while in Free Spins, they accumulate gradually and remain active until the end of the bonus round.
It’s this last mechanic that makes Free Spins significantly more exciting than regular spins.

EDITORIAL OPINION

Our verdict

Gates of Olympus 1000 doesn’t try to reinvent the original game. Pragmatic Play has kept the slot virtually unchanged and enhanced its most notable mechanics.
Now, a single sphere can contain up to x1,000, and the total win is capped at x15,000 the bet.
The 6×5 grid, Pay Anywhere, and Tumble features ensure a constant stream of new combinations, but the main potential still revolves around the multiplier orbs and free spins.
The bonus round is particularly important, as multiplier values do not disappear after each spin but accumulate until the end of the Free Spins. This is precisely what distinguishes a regular winning spin from a truly powerful bonus round.
Essentially, Gates of Olympus 1000 isn’t a new concept, but rather a more aggressive version of the already familiar Gates of Olympus formula: the same gameplay, but with x1,000 instead of x500 and a significantly higher payout limit.
